hello fellow horse nuts!

Welcome to my blog about horses and horse stuff.

For some background, I am a horse owner and rider in my 50's and have been horsecrayzee since the age of 10. I have two old (age 27) Appaloosas and 2 younger Quarter horses (17 and 12). Therefore I am horse poor! Luckily they live on my father's property in Geneva in their little herd. The Apps are my dad's last babies from the horses we had growing up. As a child I showed western but now ride both.

With the economy in the dumps and no hope of recovery anytime soon I am constantly looking for cost savings. Today I received an email from State Line Tack (www.statelinetack.com) they are having a sale on pest control. You might want to look into it. A 32 oz. sprayer of Endure costs $15.99 as compared to a local tack retailer selling the same for $32.25. Granted you will pay shipping but if you plan in advance so that you don't need your spray today you could do the cheapest delivery and save some $$.

Also check the price on wormers. I paid $9.95 for on State Line as opposed to the local retailer price of $13.95. If you know of local retailers selling these items less expensively let me know.

The only other thing I will put out there today is
4-H  (http://www.seminolecountyfl.gov/leisure/coopext/4H/4h.asp)--407-665-5560

If your kid or you love horses, get into the 4-H horse program and get involved in all the aspects of the other 4-H programs. Shane Michael is the extension agent and is a great guy. My daughter was involved in the horse program, then later in the leadership programs and it made a huge difference in her confidence and abilities. She worked for and won scholarships that helped her with college. We had some very trying times but I think our time at the shows and on the trails created a wonderful bond that not many parents have with their children.

Oops one more thing,

FOX HUNTING in Florida

If you are curious about this and want to talk to an expert call Barbara Buccino at 407-349-0031.
She also gives lessons in Geneva and is the most patient woman I know. Perfect for beginners and intermediates and mature folks (especially women) wanting to resume their riding.

That's it for now. Back soon.
